Dragon Quest might not be as big in Western lands, but in Japan this franchise is huge!  How huge?  Huge enough to move over 4.1 million units to date.  This could quite possibly be why Nintendo had to jump in and make sure this DS RPG comes to North America by partnering with Square-Enix as publisher and developer respectively.  While I doubt we can expect to see those numbers here, it will definitely be nice to get my hands on the latest and greatest the franchise has to offer.  If you'll recall, the last numbered game in the series, Dragon Quest VIII, was released here on the PS2 back in November 2005.  Here we are now, almost five years later, and we get the next numbered game, except it's on the DS.  It'll be a day-one purchase for me for sure.

The announcement that DQIX was going to make its way across the Pacific was given today at Nintendo's event in San Francisco, which is likely filled with a whole mess of other announcements (some of which are already gracing this site).  Still, this one is by far the most anticipated upcoming game for me.  Yes, I'm a JRPG nerd, hear me roar!
