The Falconeer was first revealed during Geoff Keighley’s Xbox Games Showcase pre-show, in which he ran a brief sizzle reel of a few indie games that are being optimized for launch on Xbox Series X. The premise is simple: set in a faraway land, you pilot a giant falcon across a vast ocean world and engage in dogfights and uncover new mysteries. You can check out its trailer below:

The Falconeer looks absolutely stunning: engrossing and high-stakes dogfights, a gorgeous color palette, and a unique premise that immediately sets it apart from other titles in the genre. It'll be interesting to see more of the title as more trailers and details are released in the future. Not to mention that fans of Star Fox 64 should be happy with this game dropping, as they'll finally have the dogfighting title of their dreams.

According to its official description:

"From the clouds they dive, the screams of battle in their lungs…

Preserve the past or flee its terrible consequences in The Falconeer, an open-world air combat game. Soar through the skies aboard a devastatingly powerful warbird, and uncover secrets lost to the sea as you join or oppose different factions and clans scattered throughout the mysterious world of The Great Ursee."

Some other highlights from the indie showcase include Shredders (FoamPunch), Last Stop (Variable State), The Artful Escape (Beethoven & Dinosaur), Tunic (Andrew Shouldice), Lake (Gamious), Sable (Shadworks), Song of Iron (SoloDev, Escape), EXO ONE (Exblative), 12 Minutes (Luis Antonio), The Ascent (Neon Giant), The Big Con (Mighty Yell Studios), Gunexplored 2 (Ludomotion), and Madstreets (Craftshop). It's great to see the wide variety of genres and artstyles represented in the showcase; I look forward to seeing more of these titles in the future as well.

The Falconeer will be launching this holiday season for the Xbox One S, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X, and PC.
