The Fall was an action-adventure platformer with a dark sci-fi story and thick atmosphere featuring an exoskeleton armor powered by an AI that activated once it realized the host body of the suit was unconscious. Its goal was to seek medical attention to the soon-to-expire pilot. When that proves to be difficult, the AI must do a number of things to keep itself and its pilot alive, but the story doesn't end there.

The Fall Part 2: Unbound was announced back in April 2017, continuing the planned trilogy. After a previous delay late last year, today it received a release date of February 13, 2018, as well as a new trailer.

As the name would suggest, the sequel features the AI named A.R.I.D. no longer bound to protecting the pilot of her suit, for reasons revealed at the end of The Fall. Instead of insisting upon the survival of the pilot, A.R.I.D. alters her quest to one of self-preservation.

In The Fall Part 2: Unbound, A.R.I.D. is both unbound from her duties of protection as well as being unbound from her suit. The AI can jump from robotic host to robotic host, greatly expanding the point-and-click portions of the game, combining the previous title's Metroidvania style gameplay with puzzles.

The trailer below introduces three new hosts: A butler robot, a (ahem) service companion, and a host simply known as One. While The Fall had a compelling story, developer Over the Moon has stated that it's aiming to offer a deeper integration of story and gameplay, making the two meld together more perfectly.

Over the Moon CEO John Warner said:

"Our newest trailer highlights a strange and unsettling section of the game, during which players possess a robot designed to pleasure humans, only twist and manipulate her into hurting others to obtain their goal. We want this game to shock you, excite you, make you laugh, thematically challenge you and put you in situations you have never been in before. It’s our highest goal that video games can change people for the better, and The Fall part 2: Unbound is as rich with interesting ideas as it is fun to play."

The Fall Part 2: Unbound will launch on PS4, PC, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch on February 13, and you can check out the new trailer below:
