After a long-awaited release from its initial beta period, trying to break free from the addictive Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft may just be an exercise in futility: case in point, a brand new expansion bringing over 100 new cards to the game next month.
Blizzard announced through a special livestreaming event its next expansion for Hearthstone, which was officially revealed as “The Grand Tournament.” The publisher detailed that the new expansion for Hearthstone is expected to release in August, and will provide plenty of new cards in addition to a few new gameplay mechanics.
A blog post on Battle.net revealed that “The Grand Tournament” will introduce 132 new cards to Hearthstone, with the set to include brand new spells, weapons, “and a retinue of Azeroth’s most renowned Champions ready to join your cause.” In addition to the new cards, a new Minion keyword, called “Inspire,” will provide a new card ability that activates after using a Hero Power and can include numerous different effects when used, such as drawing additional cards or gaining Attack power.
“The Grand Tournament” will also include a brand new gameboard themed after the festive tournament, and also provides an update to the game’s Arena rewards: instead of just earning cards from the “Goblins vs. Gnomes” or “Classic” card packs, player will also be able to receive card packs from “The Grand Tournament” card sets as rewards.
