The Gunk Is Xbox Exclusive Since It's a Hardware-Demanding Game, Says the Publisher
Thunderful's CEO says they decided to talk with Microsoft for The Gunk because they have the most powerful platform for the next generation of consoles.
Recently, the CEO of the publisher behind The Gunk, revealed the main reason behind developing the game exclusively for Xbox consoles and PC in a new statement, indicating that they decide to work with Microsoft since it has the most powerful hardware for the next generation of consoles.
The Gunk is one of the many promising next-gen indie titles that was revealed during Microsoft’s Xbox Games Showcase last week. Similar to all the games revealed in the event, The Gunk is also a Microsoft exclusive title that will be coming to Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and PC.
In a recent statement from Thunderful, the publisher behind The Gunk, the company’s CEO explained about their upcoming title and the reason behind why they decided to make it a Microsoft-exclusive. Brjann Sigurgeirsson said:
New IP, new heroes, a new development engine, and an extra dimension. We’ve had to keep this close to our chests for quite some time, and as always it’s a relief to announce to the world what we’re working on. We’re of course very excited.
A bit into the development process it became obvious that The Gunk would be very hardware-demanding. We’ve always managed to keep our games lean, but The Gunk is all bells and whistles about to explode spectacularly. We had to make a choice: either we quiet it down considerably, or we go talk to the guys with the most powerful hardware. We decided to go talk to the guys with the most powerful hardware.
Unlike the previous projects from Image & Form, The Gunk will be a 3D experience with some familiar gameplay mechanics from SteamWorld Dig 2 and SteamWorld Quest, their previous titles.
In The Gunk, you will step into an alien planet to collect resources and gather various plants. While the unknown planet is an exceptional home to what you were seeking, there are some dangerous challenges as well that make you forget about your main mission and put yourself into some unexpected troubles to save the life of the living on the planet.
The Gunk will be released in Fall 2021. It will be available on Xbox Game Pass at launch.
