The official Twitter account for GenDesign, developers of The Last Guardian, recently shared a new tweet, encouraging fans to look forward to 2023 as a year in which the Japanese developer will have a lot of topics to deliver to its community. We know that GenDesign has been working on a new project for a few years. Funded by Epic Games and Kowloon Nights, the game is supposed to be published by Epic's new publishing label. The founder of GenDesign Fumito Ueda revealed in 2018 that a new project is in the works. The game was backed by Epic Games in 2020, and then it received a mysterious concept art back in 2021, which wasn't directly confirmed by GenDesign, but it referred to a game that has never been seen before.READ MORE: Valve Announces Most Played Steam Deck Games Of DecemberNow, this year's letter doesn't give off any new clues aside from the fact that we should hear more about the new project. "It's finally a year where we can deliver a lot of topics to everyone! We are doing our best, so please look forward to it." reads the tweet (translated to English by Twitter). "Thank you for your continued support in the year."

Fumito Ueda formed GenDesign after his departure from Sony's Japan Studio in the midst of developing The Last Guardian, but the Japanese game designer committed to finishing his work on the game in cooperation with Sony. So, technically The Last Guardian was the first title by GenDesign.

That being said, Ueda himself is best known for his incredible work on Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, both of which were exclusively on PlayStation 2. It is yet to be seen what platforms will receive GenDesign's new title, but regarding the fact that Epic Games is the publisher, we can probably expect it to be a multi-platform experience.

Currently, GenDesign is hiring for multiple positions at the studio, which is also a part of this year's tweet. Unfortunately, we have no clue about the new project's development stage at the moment, but Ueda's titles usually have a long development process.
