After several years in development hell, Team ICO's opus The Last Guardian finally saw the light of day with a release on PS4 last December, and now one year after the game's release, a new experience is coming to players through the power of VR.

During tonight's presentation at PlayStation Experience, PlayStation's Shawn Layden and Sid Shuman revealed that a VR experience based in the world of The Last Guardian will arrive as a free VR treat for PlayStation VR owners right before the holidays. It was also revealed that this will be a standalone experience from the original game and won't require it to enjoy/play.

Specifically, the duo showed some footage as the player interacts with the lovable Trico, and while it seems the experience won't be the entirety of The Last Guardian, the VR experience still seems like a unique way to re-enter the world of the game in a stunning, interactive way.

The Last Guardian's VR experience will arrive on December 12th for free for PlayStation VR owners - in the meantime, you can check out a brief glimpse of the title below from PlayStation Experience:
