The Last of Us Part 2 fans have wanted Grounded mode and now we know they'll get it very soon. The tough-as-nails difficulty option is called the "ultimate test of skill" by developer Naughty Dog. However, it's not just the new difficulty being added. You can also expect tons of new unlockable modifiers to change things up and several improvements across the board.

In The Last of Us Part 2, Grounded mode is your greatest challenge. Enemies are deadlier, items and ammo are harder to come by, and some of your most-used features are disabled or limited. Best of all, it's unlocked from the start. No need to beat the game on a certain difficulty to hop in.

Adding to the challenge is the new Permadeath mode. It plays exactly as it sounds. If you meet your end at the hands of a zombie, then you start over at the beginning. No checkpoints. No mercy. Though, if you're not feeling up to the total challenge, you can turn those checkpoints back on. However, are you really playing Permadeath mode at that point?

On top of the new modes, Naughty Dog is adding several unlockable game modifiers. These include everything from infinite ammo to 4-bit audio to slow motion to a mirror world. If you're looking for a way to spice up your gameplay or just take even more awesome photos, this is the update for you.

Finally, the update adds several requested improvements. Among them is the ability to adjust film grain and being able to see your playtime down to the second. Tons of great stuff for the people who need it.

The Last of Us Part 2 is available now on PS4.
