After a very long wait and rumors of a release date, The Last of Us Part 2 launch date was finally revealed during PlayStation’s State of Play stream on Tuesday with a spectacular trailer to boot. DualShockers reported back in July that the game would release in February 2020 with four editions; a standard edition, a special edition, a collector's edition, and an Ellie edition and thankfully, we now know that came true when Game director Neil Druckmann detailed each of them in a PlayStation Blog post.
As most of us are aware, today is Outbreak Day which is the very date that the cordyceps virus began to spread throughout the post-apocalyptic world in The Last of Us. To celebrate this event each year, as horrific as that is, Naughty Dog treats their fans to a whole host of goodies that include things like merchandise and giveaways. Like last year where PS4 owners received some stunning themes that included the Ellie Dynamic theme and The Last of Us Part 2 Burning Dynamic Theme, this year it looks like we will get a brand new one called the 'Grunge'.
A New Zealand PS4 user discovered the theme on the PS Store which then was removed due to it possibly hitting the store too early. Thankfully, before it was pulled, they managed to capture a short video clip (check it out at the end of this article) of what we can expect hopefully later today when Naughty Dog officially announces it for all regions. As you can see from the clip, the 'Grunge' theme is coated in a black and white old-school artistic style accompanied by new music in the background and with a very angry looking Ellie staring straight at us.
We will hopefully hear more about this new PS4 theme later today when Naughty Dog discuss what they have in store for their fans on Outbreak Day.
The Last of Us Part II will release February 21, 2020, and it will be arriving exclusively on the PS4.
