Finishing a game these days isn't always an easy task. When life takes over that includes work, personal life, and other distracting elements, getting to the end of a 20-30 hour game can leave you feeling a little exhausted. But when the game is as good as The Last of Us Part 2, putting in that extra time is certainly a worthwhile endeavor and it seems quite a lot of players agree according to a screenshot of the data for The Last of Us Part 2's trophy system.

The Last of Us Part 2 can be completed anywhere between 20 and 40 hours depending on how much time you take within its world and if you try to get as many of the goals needed to grab yourself the platinum, even though it will take another playthrough to get them all. Getting to the end of the title's story, even just once, will see you granted the “What I Had to Do” trophy where you will also see how rare this is compared with other players. In this screenshot provided by ungeek, you'll notice that 58% of gamers have obtained it meaning that compared to the likes of God of War and Final Fantasy VII Remake who has a 51.8% and 53.3% rate of completion, The Last of Us Part 2 overtakes it by quite a bit. Even the hard-hitting and popular PS4 titles such as Days Gone and Horizon Zero Dawn have only managed to gain a completion rate of around 34%.

For comparison, check out the completion rates of other PS4 games:

  • Final Fantasy VII Remake – 53.3%
  • God of War – 51.8%
  • Marvel’s Spider-Man – 50.7%
  • Uncharted: The Lost Legacy – 50.3%
  • Detroit: Become Human – 49%
  • Ghost of Tsushima – 38.2%
  • Horizon Zero Dawn – 34.5%
  • Days Gone – 34%
  • Death Stranding – 29.3%
  • Red Dead Redemption II – 28.6%

At the bottom of the leader board, Death Stranding sits at 29.3% with Red Dead Redemption II coming in last at 28.6%. This is, of course, at this time of writing and these numbers will vary over time, not to mention that other PlayStation 4 titles aren’t included in the list and these are also only based on the trophies given for completing the story of each game. Regardless, even with The Last of Us Part 2's complex and uncompromising storyline, this didn't turn a lot of players off amidst the criticism and they felt compelled to see the story through.

In other The Last of Us news, what fan wouldn’t be excited about the upcoming The Last of Us HBO series? Recently, we learned that it will include a “Jaw Drop” moment that was originally cut from the game. Chernobyl creator and HBO’s The Last of Us writer Craig Mazin said that ”We’re creating new [things] and re-imagining what is already there to present it for a different format,” Mazin told the BBC’s Must Watch. “Our goal is not to keep you in love with The Last of Us, but to make you fall in love with it again in a different way. It’s a passive way of taking it in, instead of playing it, but you’ll be experiencing more, with more characters in more ways.” Mazin says of his reaction to hearing about a moment that Druckmann had initially left out of The Last of Us “Jaw drop – that’s going in. For sure, we have to do that. You couldn’t stop me doing that. You will have to shoot me [to stop me] from doing that.”

The Last of Us Part 2 is available now exclusively on PS4 (and soon to be PS5). The game was one of DualShockers’ favorites of 2020; make sure to check out the official DualShockers (generally spoiler-free) review. Also, feel free to grab the game physically on Amazon to help support the site.
