The Legend of Bum-bo is a spin-off from The Binding of Issac franchise that uses a Bejeweled-like interface as its main gameplay mechanic. Fans of games like Puzzle Quest will feel right at home with the mix of tile-matching and spell-casting. The game has been in development for a while now but is nearing its release date. Creator Edmund McMillen recently took to YouTube to show off the game's first level in its entirety, and give you a better idea of what to expect. Give it a watch below.

As someone who poured over 1,000 hours into The Binding of Issac across its various releases, I've been paying attention to The Legend of Bum-bo since its announcement. McMillen knows how to craft an incredibly tight game even with the copious amounts of randomness that you run into when playing BoI. So, even though Bum-bo is in a completely different genre, I was confident this game was going to be good.

His short demo did nothing to change my outlook. I may be the perfect target audience for this game, but I still think most are going to enjoy it. It takes everything you love about The Binding of Issac and translates it perfectly to the new genre. The boss battle to end the video was particularly impressive. The way they've taken Peepers' abilities from BoI and put them into this puzzle-matching game is inspired design. This game will be special if they're able to keep up that same level of quality.

The Legend of Bum-bo comes to PC on November 12.
