The internet has become obsessed with Gollum's massive visual downgrade in Daedalic Entertainment's newest title, The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum, and rightly so. The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum has already become the worst-reviewed game of 2023, mainly due to its uninteresting story, poor level design, clunky controls, and the plethora of bugs and glitches. But there's one thing the internet is struggling to get its head around: why has Gollum been so drastically downgraded from the game's marketing material?READ MORE: The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum Has Been An Unmitigated DisasterYou might have noticed two images circulating Twitter from The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum. The first is a promotional image that was released prior to the game's launch, and the second is an actual in-game screenshot. Both of which appear drastically different.Twitter user Lady Emily took to Twitter, saying, "Absolutely obsessed with this screenshot from the Gollum game. Just cannot stop thinking about it." Followed by an in-game image that shows a rather odd-looking Gollum. Many of the replies found the image hilarious, whilst some simply couldn't believe it was genuinely an in-game screenshot.

One response reads, "no way this is real. I’ve not looked into this game at all and I refuse to believe this is real," whilst another points out the awful use of the Calibri font in the image, "I think the use of Calibri for the font is just *chef's kiss*."

Other Twitter users, such as Lumpy, also found the difference between the marketing images and the full release hilariously bad. "That Gollum game was never going to be great but damn if this isn’t the funniest “alpha footage vs final release” since maybe the first Watch Dogs." Again, many of the responses couldn't believe what they were seeing, with one user simply saying, "Is this real? It looks like a joke."

As for GamesRadar's Alex Avard, they called it one of the worst games they've played in a while. Alex went on to say, "If you can't be bothered to read the full review, the difference between this promotional screenshot and the actual game gives you a decent summation of why."

There's no doubt about it, The Lord Of The Rings: Gollum is one of the worst games of the year, but at least it gave us all a good laugh, I suppose?
