Last night we reported on a message appeared on the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn beta registration site that seemed to indicate that the open beta of the game would begin on August the 17th, as Square Enix previously announced that registrations will reopen at the same time as the beta. You can see the message below:
Square Enix probably noticed the hoopla, and the message has been quickly changed to a much more “inoffensive” one.
This could mean two things: either the first message was a mistake, and has since been corrected to avoid people using it as a base to incorrectly speculate on the open beta start date, or it was correct, but Square Enix doesn’t want us to know when the open beta will start just yet.
Personally, I lean towards the first option, as a start date on August the 17th with the release only ten days after and the early access in the middle is simply too short to be practical. In the end, we’re back to square one, so we’ll have to wait for the official announcement, that should come soon enough anyway.
While we wait, you can check out my hands-on preview of the closed beta, topped by 723 yummy screenshots.
