When The Unplanned Variable lands on Byzantium in the latter portion of The Outer Worlds, they may find themselves walking into a little clothes shop and chatting with the eccentric owner. This haberdasher, Celeste Jolicoeur, is thinking of a daring and dashing piece and is positive you are the right person to help her craft it. This is even trickier than it sounds.

Celeste's instructions will prove to be straightforward yet cryptic. Some items will be easy to get without any thought, while some will require exact knowledge and careful reading.

Finding Celeste

The Outer Worlds Byzantium Jolicoeur's Haberdashery

Celeste will be at her store, Jolicoeur's Haberdashery. After talking with her, you can agree to help her with her newest design.

The Outer Worlds Celeste Jolicoeur explaining to the player what she wants for the Makes Space Suits, Won't Travel quest

This is where the hunt begins for this fetch quest, and neither the materials nor the solution will be all too clear. She says she wants monster leather and the outfits of the following:

  • Spacers
  • Marauders
  • Iconoclasts

Quests in games by Obsidian are sometimes more secretive than others. The difficult part of Makes Space Suits, Won't Travel is that none of the materials will be given a quest marker. As long as the quest is set as active during this section, the only quest marker will be the one on Celeste herself. You will have to either poke around the game and uncover the best methods for retrieval, or already know ahead of time to save yourself the hassle. She also does not give much help if asked, the only thing she knows is that Spacer gear might be found on The Groundbreaker, and even then she admits that's an assumption. Her assumption is correct, however.

Spacer Outfit

The Outer Worlds Ike's Armory and Engineering signs on the Groundbreaker

Head to The Groundbreaker from your ship. At the back, to the left of Engineering, is a shop called Ike's Armory.

The Outer Worlds Ike Kristiansen speaking to the player

Ike sells plenty of helmets and suits, he is the most convenient spot for armor specifically made for Spacers. You can't just buy anything from him and hope it works, you will need to read the description of the items and see if it explicitly mentions the Spacers typically wear them.

The Outer Worlds Padded Helm with description in shop

This is the most confusing part and the part most likely to mess you up. Spacer will not be capitalized so be sure to read the whole description. Not only that, but spacer and Spacer's Choice are two different types of clothing lines, so if you buy anything labeled Spacer's Choice it will not work for the quest. Spacer’s Choice is not the best choice, it's not a choice at all. You could buy these now and return them to Celeste immediately, but it's recommended to just wait until you have all three outfits and return them later. If Ike does not carry both a helmet and a chest piece at that time, just leave and return to reset his inventory until he does.

Marauder Outfit

The Outer Worlds Marauder Hooligan looking for player in Emerald Vale Region

The Marauder outfit may sound easier on paper, and that's mostly the case. Marauders can be found in several locations such as Monarch Wilderness or Emerald Vale. Sneak up or charge in, either way, you'll need to kill them and loot their bodies for this method.

Just like with Ike's Inventory, not every armor piece is guaranteed to be considered part of the correct set. Make sure the word Marauder is in the description. Curiously, even the spacer's gear can be found this way, but the method with Ike is still the most likely way to quickly find the spacer's armor.

Iconoclast Outfit

The Outer Worlds Amber Heights Map Icon on Monarch

The Iconoclast camp is in Amber Heights. If you are already aligned with or plan to align with the Iconoclasts, you cannot simply kill them for the loot. Thankfully, there is an armory.

The Outer Worlds Iconoclast Bronson telling the player he is the emporium

Iconoclasts helms and chest pieces can easily be purchased from Bronson. As with the others, read the description of each item before purchase.

With all three outfits in your inventory, return them to Celeste and showcase them. You will need to be wearing the sets for her to notice.

Primal Leather

The Outer Worlds Primal Hunters in Emerald Vale

Now Celeste will clear up what she said earlier when she said monster leather. She wants the hide from three different creatures.

  • 10 pieces of Primal Leather from Primals which can be found in Emerald Vale
  • 1 Mantiqueen Chitin from a Mantiqueen which can be found in the Monarch Wilderness
  • 3 pieces of Raptidon Flank Hide from Raptidons which can be found in the Monarch Wilderness

Each of these items are quests items, so you do not have to worry about accidentally selling them.

The game will keep track of how much you have of each, so don't worry about checking every time. Just go hunt until you get the notifications, then once you have everything, return to Celeste.

Picking Up Celeste's Mail

The Outer Worlds Byzantium Celeste's Home with HPS Delivery Notice

With everything she needs to make the outfit, Celeste decides this is the perfect time to see if a package she ordered has been delivered. The catch is, she wants you to do it for her. Unlike the rest of the quest, you will have a quest marker telling you exactly where to go.

To summarize the events; you will be told you went to the wrong window, be redirected to the correct window, be told it arrived at Celeste's house, go to Celeste's house and see it was sent back, go back to complain, be sent back to the first window, then finally pick up the package from the first window. When you return to Celeste, she'll be dead.

Turns out the guards mistook her for a sympathizer to one of the groups you gained armor from and murdered her. Loot her body for her office key to discover she somehow managed to finish the outfit while you were gone.

The finished piece is the Chimaera, which is both stylish and comes with a high defense rating. Pair it with the "A Nice Hat" item for an achievement/trophy.
