The Showdown Effect Goes Western With "Showdown Hoedown Content Throwdown"

By Masoud House

May 7, 2013

A free new content update is coming along to The Showdown Effect, which includes wild west stages with a pinch of 80’s monster movies added in. The two new levels–South Eastwood and Fort Fiesta– are available for free now as both ranked and custom matches.

Two new characters are also coming to The Showdown Effect: Thelma Vaine, a British super-spy with a cloaking device and a sharp tongue — and Dr. Johnny Bionic, a cyborg who must fight every day to keep his drill-saw-arm from murdering all humans. These characters, plus a series of Reddit costume pieces, can be redeemed for free using in-game AC. More Western-themed costume pieces can also be purchased.

Check out The Showdown Effect website to get the game, and check out the trailer below for a look at the DLC.

Born and raised in video games and "geek culture," Masoud has been bred off of fantasy worlds his entire life and doesn't see anything wrong with that. He loves RPGs (especially TRPGs), sandbox games, the sci-fi genre, dieselpunk, art deco, and anything that allows him to create. Having graduated from John Jay College with a degree in English and a minor in Creative Writing, Masoud hopes to one day pen the same novels, comics, movies, and video games he enjoys escaping into when the real world gets too boring.
