The Sonic the Hedgehog Franchise Runs Towards a New Dawn with Sonic Boom

Our old pal Sonic and his friends will be receiving an overhaul of sorts with his upcoming game, Sonic Boom.

Sonic Boom is coming out for the Wii U and the 3DS. What’s interesting is that both games will be developed by two different studios. Big Red Button will handle the Wii U edition while Sanzaru Games will create the 3DS version. Each game will be similar but also have unique content for their respective systems. The Wii U version will run on CryEngine 3.

Sonic Boom is itself a franchise and it will feature games, a TV series, merchandise and more. The Wii U version of the game acts as a prequel to the TV series. This CG animated show will be developed by OuiDo! Productions and is set to air on the Cartoon Network this fall. The series will consist of 52, 11 minute long episodes.

Sonic Boom is the third Sonic the Hedgehog game in Sega’s exclusive deal with Nintendo.
