Focus Home Interactive's Gamescom 2018 showcase included our first glimpse into The Surge 2's gameplay, packing a lot of intense action into its swift and brutal 52-second trailer.

The trailer begins with deep blue skies and lush greenery as the camera pans through a forest setting. However, the subtlety doesn't last long. A brief close-up of a savage bladed weapon gives way to a wave of carnage. In the blink of an eye, the trailer jumps headlong into combat. The game's fast swooping motions carry weight with them as enemies are stabbed and hacked apart in brutal slow-motion kills-shots.

We are also treated to one of the larger opponents that players will be up against. A garden statue seems relatively harmless until its limbs pop out of place at the joints and it advances towards you. It then gives chase through the forest firing red-hot beams that tear through fallen tree trunks in its path as if they were nothing.

The sequel to last year's runaway hit The Surge 2 is set for release in 2019 for PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
