Today, Italy-based developer LKA and publisher Wired Productions' first-person psychological horror game, The Town of Light, launches on PS4, Xbox One, and PC both digitally and at retail, with the latter being handled by THQ Nordic. To celebrate, the pair have released an official launch trailer.

As you may remember, The Town of Light actually first arrived on the scene early last year: releasing on PC. But here it is again: releasing on PC. Why? Well, because today's released is actually an enhanced edition of the original game: that will offer up new puzzles, new story-supporting content, additional interactive elements, reworked voiceover dialogue, and a "huge" graphical and UI overhaul. The aim is supposedly to deliver a more polished and immersive experience for its console debut. It's kinda like a soft re-launch. Additionally, if you bought the game on PC already, you can snag this version for free. And if you have a PS4 Pro you also will get some attention, as the game is said to support the upgraded PS4; however, in what ways, is unclear.

For those that don't know: The Town of Light -- which is inspired by true events -- is set in Tuscany, Italy at the Volterra Psychiatric Asylum, an asylum that has been closed since 1978 because its practices were deemed “too cruel.” How cruel? Well, such cruelties reported included electroshock therapy on patients, as well as people being tied up to their beds in straightjackets.

The game takes place in March of 1938: you play as Renée, 16 year old girl who has been "ripped out of her world, locked up and deprived of everything." Apparently Renée has found herself in Volterra Psychiatric Asylum as, according to a police report, she's "a danger to herself and others and a cause of public scandal."

In the game you will explore and interact with the environment as you relive the history of the main character through her confused viewpoint and on the basis of your choices, which will develop the story in different ways.

The Town of Light will cost $19.99 USD. Below, you can check out the new launch trailer:
