Crystal Dynamics has finally revealed the name and face behind the voice of Lara Croft in their upcoming prequel-reboot of Tomb Raider. We have known for a while that the Lara’s voice was being provided by that of a newcomer to the series, but the identity was kept secret.
Camilla Luddington, a 28 year-old native of Berkshire, England, will be the fifth woman in history to provide Lara Croft’s voice. Her credits include a recent starring role in the television film, William & Kate, in addition to a few roles on television shows such as CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, True Blood, and Californication.
The head of Crystal Dynamics, Darrel Gallagher, considered the casting of Luddington to be of paramount importance due to this new Tomb Raider being, “very different to any other and we are demanding far more from the voice and performance acting than ever before as we take the franchise in a new direction.” Their casting of Luddington was primarily influenced by their opinion that she could convey, “a depth of emotion and the youthful tone needed for Lara Croft.”
Luddington will be speaking on her role as Lara Croft at the Nerd HQ and San Diego Comic Conventions later this year.
