The Walking Dead: Onslaught Brings the TV Series to VR in September

The Walking Dead: Onslaught, which is set in the TV series' universe, will officially head to console and VR platforms next month.

The Walking Dead franchise has come a long way since its comic series initially debuted, including its long-running (some might say too long-running) TV series, video games, and much more. Though the franchise is no stranger to the world of gaming, the TV series will be getting its own official VR game next month with The Walking Dead: Onslaught.

IGN has released a new trailer for the upcoming The Walking Dead: Onslaught, with the new video giving a closer look at its VR melee and ranged combat gameplay. The trailer also detailed that the game will officially launch on September 29 and will arrive for PlayStation VR and PC VR platforms, including Oculus Rift, Valve Index, and HTC Vive. You can take a look at the new trailer below:

The Walking Dead: Onslaught is being developed and published by Survios and is set in the universe of the TV series on AMC. As the gameplay trailer highlights, players will be able to take on the role of several characters from the show such as Rick, Daryl, Michonne, and more as they fight off hordes of Walkers and attempt to survive the post-apocalpyse. Additionally, the game also features a “Progressive Dismemberment System” to give players a more visceral feel to the combat.

The release of Onslaught would mark the second TWD-based VR game to release this year after The Walking Dead: Saints & Sinners, which launched in January for various VR platforms. While Saints & Sinners is based in the comic universe of the franchise, overall the game has been well-received since its launch on PC, and also came to PlayStation VR in the spring.

The Walking Dead: Onslaught will release for PS VR and PC VR platforms on September 29, 2020.
