The Waylanders was successfully Kickstarted back in late 2018 by developer Gato Studio. The game is a party-based RPG that takes its inspiration from games like Dragon Age: Origins and Pillars of Eternity. Gato Studio has been hard at work on the game all year. They released their first trailer at Gamescom to show off what they've been working on. Give it a watch below.

The first thing to note with The Waylanders is the talented cast behind it. Gato has brought in Emily Grace Buck of Telltale fame to head up the narrative. Helping her with the story is industry vet and acclaimed game author Chris Avellone. Rounding out the big names brought in for the project is Inon Zur who headed up the music department for games like Fallout 3 & 4 and Dragon Age: Origins.

That said, having some of the biggest names in the industry can only get you so far. Fortunately, Waylanders looks like an RPG with tons of meat on the bones. The game actually takes place over two time periods, as you travel between the different eras during gameplay. Choices you make in one time period will carry over to the other, which leads to several different endings for players to explore.

There is a heavy focus on tactical combat. You'll be able to quickly pause a battle to map out your strategy. Plus, you have access to six basic and 30 advanced classes to really build your party to your playstyle. If you're a fan of game's like Dragon Age: Origins and early Mass Effect games, this looks like it will be right up your alley.

The Waylanders is coming to PC in 2020. While you wait, Gato Studio took to the IGN stage to demo the game in action. Watch it below.
