The Witcher: Monster Slayer, a location-based AR mobile game by Spokko Games, will be shut down on June 30th, 2023. The developers confirmed the news on the game's official Twitter account, whilst stating in a new FAQ post that the title failed to reach the studio's business expectations.

"Dear Witchers, sadly, we have to announce that our journey with The Witcher: Monster Slayer is coming to an end. We will be shutting down the game on the 30th of June, 2023", Spokko Games confirmed in the announcement. Although the studio states that it is "proud" to have captured what it was like to be a witcher in real life, the mobile title failed to meet business expectations and will therefore be shut down next year.

Spokko Games, a member of the CD Projekt Red family, went on to confirm that The Witcher: Monster Slayer will be available to download on both the App Store and Google Play Store until the 31st of January, 2023. Then, from the 1st of February, the game will go through some "major changes". The FAQ goes into more detail on the game's closure, outlining what players can expect in the build-up to servers being taken offline:

  • 31/01/2023 — The game will be taken down from Google Play and Apple App Store
  • 31/01/2023 — We are turning off all in-game purchases, and there will be no new content
  • 30/06/2023 — All servers will be shut down.

As of today, Spokko Games states that it is "not planning to include any new features or technical improvements in the game", but players can reach the team through the support request form until the 30th of June, 2023, should they encounter any issues.

The FAQ also confirms that Spokko Games will become a part of CD Projekt Red, with staff members being given the opportunity to work on core titles at the studio: "While The Witcher: Monster Slayer was an incredible journey, unfortunately, it did not reach our business expectations. Following CD PROJEKT’s most recent change in its long-term product strategy, we plan to start structural changes in the capital group. Moving forward, we plan to roll Spokko into CD PROJEKT RED, with a part of its staff given the opportunity to join core CD PROJEKT development projects".

Unfortunately, there will also be some staff members from Spokko Games that will be let go from the company once The Witcher: Monster Slayer shuts down on June 30th, 2023.
