Ending months of fan speculation, Netflix announced during an earnings calls this week that its The Witcher TV series will be hitting us next Fall, as in between October and December 2019.

When asked about upcoming new series and new seasons coming to the platform later this year, Netflix's Chief Content Officer Ted Sarandos answered:

And then you start seeing later in the fourth quarter some of our bigger film investments coming through like Irishman, like 6 Underground and also a big new original series that we’re currently shooting in Hungary called The Witcher, that is an enormous European IP, very popular game and Book IP, that we think is going to make a really fun global series.

The Witcher Netflix TV series was announced back in May 2017, and many fans of the franchise are eagerly waiting for it. The TV series' first season will span eight episodes, and each will be one hour long.

The Witcher TV series casts Henry Cavill as protagonist Geralt of Rivia, Freya Allan as Ciri, and Anya Chalotra as Yennefer. The series is helmed by Lauren Schmidt Hissrich, who also wrote the Netflix TV series of Marvel's The Defenders and Daredevil. We don't know much further about the series, as Hissrich and the staff have been very secretive. However, at the end of March, a short video clip of the series's shooting emerged. Most of The Witcher Netflix is being filmed in Hungary and Poland, and the video shows the film crew at Vajdahunyad Castle, in Budapest.

It's possible another season of The Witcher Netflix will be announced shortly after the first one releases this fall, as Netflix is reportedly already thinking about producing a sequel.
