Netflix's The Witcher Series Will Draw Inspiration From CD Projekt Red's Version of Geralt

The Witcher Netflix will draw its own path while drawing inspiration from both the novels and games.

The internet was taken by surprise last week when it was announced that Netflix was developing an original series based on The Witcher game series.

For those who may not know, the CD Projekt Red games are actually based on the novels by author Andrzej Sapkowski. What was most surprising in the announcement is that the new series would be based more on the novels than the uber-popular games. That’s not to say that Geralt couldn’t make an appearance in the upcoming series, however.

In a recent interview with Inn Poland, Director Tomasz Baginski stated that he actually favored CD Projekt Red’s version of the character. The director then noted that while many may only be familiar with the game’s version of Geralt, the novels provide a different interpretation. As a result, there will be some obvious similarities between both the novel and CDPR’s version of Geralt, but Baginski noted that he plans to take his own path for the series. It is sure to be an interesting take as the amount of creative liberty available for the series is incredibly high.

Netflix is working with Baginski as director and Sean Daniel as executive, and the series is being developed by Polish company Platige Image. No timetable has been announced yet for release, but development is apparently full speed ahead.

Although no casting information has been announced either, we took it upon ourselves to dream up some possibilities. You can read over them here and see how it compares to your own picks for the White Wolf and company.

I live in New Jersey with my three children and beautiful wife, who for some reason is cool with me talking about video games as much as I do. I also like asking weird questions, such as what would happen if Pinocchio said "My nose will grow right now?"
