Inspired by the action and storytelling of both anime shows and other independent games, The World Next Door is a fantastical narrative game coming to Nintendo Switch. Developed by Rose City Games and published by VIZ Media, this game is almost a hybrid between visual novel and puzzle action game.

Players will be in the role of Jun, a rebellious teenage girl who finds herself trapped in a magical parallel world. As Jun, the player will have to defeat opponents in puzzle battles and build relationships and a reputation with other characters through branching dialogue paths.

The game features a colorful, stylish art style, and has an eclectic cast of characters to interact with. Puzzle battles will have players activate runes to cast spells, with the option for 1v1 competitive multiplayer.

The World Next Door was previously announced for PC and Mac, but today’s Nindies Showcase confirmed that the title will also make it to Nintendo Switch. Expect the game to launch sometime in early 2019—check out Nintendo’s trailer for the game below.
