On August 2, Weappy Studio and THQ Nordic will release their adventure-strategy game This is the Police 2 on PC, Mac, and Linux. DualShockers got the game early for review, and capture the first hour of This is the Police 2, which introduces important characters like Lilly Reed and Warren Nash and sets up the glum tone for the rest of the game.

This is the Police 2 begins with the sheriff of Sharpwood, a small and cold Fargo-esque town, investigating a gang in one of the title’s XCOM inspired strategy game sections. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work out too well for him, resulting in his death. This causes Lilly Reed, a scrappy young officer, to become Sharpwood’s Sheriff, though she is running into problems managing the force due to their sexism and incompetency.

While investigating a case, an old man Warren Nash is brought into the station. He turns out the be Jack Boyd, on the run from the feds after the events of the original This is the Police. He eventually strikes a deal with Lilly to help her manage and run Sharpwood’s Police Department stability (though sometimes scummy), and this is really where the game begins to hit its stride during its first hour.
