THQ Nordic Acquires 100% of Biomutant IP and Developer Experiment 101
THQ Nordic makes another purchase, this times indie developer Experiment 101 and their headline-grabbing IP Biomutant for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
Biomutant was DualShockers’ Staff pick for Gamescom 2017 Game of the Show, but it appears we aren’t the only one seeing a hopeful future for it. In a recent press release, it was revealed that THQ Nordic has acquired the game’s indie once-indie developer, Experiment 101, as well as all of the rights for kung-fu action RPG.
For those who haven’t heard of the now-THQ Nordic owned Biomutant, the game was only revealed earlier this summer at Gamescom. The game is said to have a deep customizaiton system, ARPG gameplay, and a fantasy artstyle with a steady (yet customizable) narration for both story and combat. Players can expect to spend a minimum of 10 hours to beat the game when last checked, however that is just the minimum.
While the news is a bit of a shock, it would make sense that the acquisition comes from Vienna-based THQ Nordic — one of the more prolific publishers regarding acquisition. For those who know of the publisher’s history, the company entered the game development industry in 2008, eventually making headlines for aquiring a notable amount of THQ properties and (most visibly) their name. Since then, THQ Nordic has been pushing more acquisitions, including Atari (Desperados), DTP Entertainment (The Moment of Silence), and Digital Realty (Sine Mora).
Not to mention this isn’t the first notable acquisition this season. Electronic Arts earlier this month picked up Respawn Entertainment for a whopping $151 million in cash up front, $164 million in long-term in stock to employees over four years, and additional bonuses for up to $140 million depending on the achievement of undisclosed performance milestones by the end of the calendar year 2022.

Biomutant is due to release on PC, PS4, and Xbox One sometime in 2018.
