THQ Set to Announce Major Changes to WWE Series

Later today, it is expected that THQ will announce a major change to the long-lasting WWE Smackdown vs. Raw series. Of wrestling fame, Jim Ross stated on his official blog the following:

Expect to hear a major announcement Tuesday from WWE/THQ. Arguably the biggest news to date from WWE on the video game front.

According to, the announcement is expected to be the company dropping the Smackdown vs. Raw name, and the next title will simply be known as WWE ’12. Supposedly, this change is being made because THQ feels that, on television, Smackdown and Raw are not really in direct competition with each other, so the title never really made much sense. I don’t know why they would change this now after so many years. I was cool with the name and never really questioned it. I guess this has something to do with the whole “new” THQ thing the company has going for it. I guess we’ll all know soon enough what is really going on.
