Yesterday, developer Three Fields Entertainment -- a studio that consists of former Burnout developers -- announced Danger Zone, which is not a Burnout spiritual successor entirely, but Burnout's highly-popular Crash Mode turned into an entire game. And according to Three Fields Entertainment co-founder Alex Ward, everything is riding on its new game.

As you may know, Danger Zone is the developers third game. Its first two games were Dangerous Golf and Lethal VR. As you may also know, neither of those games particularly set the world on fire, which means now the studio is hoping Danger Zone can be the title it strikes gold with. When speaking to Eurogamer, Ward was asked just how much is riding on the game's success, to which Ward replied: "Everything."

Ward continues:

"We got together and pooled our life savings. We've put everything we have into starting a business out of pure passion and determination to succeed. We have no backing. There's no publishers bankrolling us or anything like that. We'd love it if there were. They're free to come and do so. We're just a small group of people just making games and putting them out and trying to do the best we can. Hopefully the game can find an audience."

As for why Danger Zone isn't a fully-fledged racing game, the answer is simple: money. Ward elaborates that without the funding needed to create a big, open-world game, it has to stick with what it can do, and that's a game of this scope.

As for a new, actual Burnout title..well that's up to EA who owns the rights to the game. But it seems like they locked that franchise up and lost the key quite a long time ago.

Danger Zone is in development for PC and PS4. It is poised to release sometime next month for $12.99 USD.
