Yesterday at Guildhall, London the winners of the TIGA Games Industry Awards 2018 were announced, with the TIGA Game of the Year winner raking in over 40,000 individual public votes.

For those unaware, TIGA is a network for game developers, and digital publishers, and are a non-profit trade association representing the video game industry. The charity partner at this year's TIGA Games Industry Awards 2018 was SpecialEffect, a charity dedicated to creating methods for disabled gamers to play their favorite titles. They also had a helping hand in guiding the production for the recent Xbox Adaptive Controller.

While there were many sponsors for the TIGA Games Industry Awards 2018, Google were sponsors for the Game Of The Year award, a mobile game. From Lockwood Publishing, Avakin Life is an Android and iOS game that allows players to create an avatar and roam a 3D world while interacting with a large online community.

Matt Henderson from Google spoke about Android and Google Play by saying:

“The UK has tremendous game development talent, as evidenced by the high standard of Avakin Life and the many great entries.  In the 10 years since Android launched, it's amazing how far mobile gaming has come, and at Google we are proud that so many innovative and entrepreneurial game developers are using Play and Android to reach a global audience.”

Meanwhile, the CEO of TIGA. Dr Richard Wilson OBE stated the ceremony was their largest to date:

 “Congratulations to all of our winners and finalists, whose excellence is driving the games industry forward.Last night’s TIGA Games Industry Awards Ceremony – our largest to date – highlighted excellence, innovation, diversity and creativity in games, businesses and education providers."

Avakin Life was also a winner at last years TIGA Games Industry Awards winning the Amazon Appstore Game category. In 2017 the Game Of The Year was Golf Clash.
