Last year, THQ Nordic-owned publisher Deep Silver announced that it had acquired the rights to the TimeSplitters franchise. While we haven't heard word yet on what THQ might be doing with the property since that time, today, they shed some light on just what its status is moving forward.

Alongside divulging the company's past financial figures, THQ Nordic also announced today that one of the original creators of TimeSplitters has now joined the company. "We’re delighted to announce that one of the series’ creators, Steve Ellis, has joined us to help plot the future course for this franchise," THQ said in a press release.

While there are still a lot of questions to be had here, such as which studio might end up working on this new TimeSplitters project, it's good to know that THQ is trying to get some of the originators of the property back to help work on the series' future. Even though it hasn't been seen or heard from in many years, TimeSplitters is a beloved IP that many fans will surely want to be treated properly by THQ Nordic.

That said, the fact that THQ Nordic and Ellis sound like they are still planning the future of TimeSplitters out makes it sound as though we shouldn't expect a new game very soon. If this new title is still in the planning stages and isn't deep into development, it could be a few years until we see a new TimeSplitters title actually release.

Still, it's good to know that THQ Nordic didn't buy this IP simply just to sit on it and is instead actively working on something new. Hopefully, we hear more about the future of TimeSplitters sooner rather than later.
