Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands Spoofs The Witcher’s Geralt in Hilarious Easter Egg

March 30, 2022

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is chock full of fun easter eggs and references, including one awesome parody of CD Projekt Red’s beloved The Witcher games.

Gearbox Software’s Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands brings high-powered whimsy to the Borderlands franchise. With an unpredictable world, explosive weaponry, and quippy dialogue, the game fully embraces the chaos of fan-favorite character Tiny Tina.

Of course, like other Borderlands games, Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands brings additional comedic flavor to its world with spoofs of popular video game franchises. This time, they’ve created a spin-off of The Witcher‘s broody Geralt, dropping references to other characters like Yennefer and Dandelion (Jaskier) while poking fun at his known hatred for portals.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is populated with punchy side quests to complement the series of main quests players can complete. One such side quest is the wittily titled mission “The Ditcher,” an obvious nod to CDPR’s The Witcher series. Set in the Sunfang Oasis, this quest only becomes available after players complete the game’s eight main quest, “Son of a Witch.”

Upon traveling to the quest point in sunny Sunfang Oasis, the player will be met with a Mysterious Vagabond. Scolding the player for “Dooming us all,” the white-haired Mysterious Vagabond introduces himself as none other than Gerritt of Trivia – “Hunter of monsters, slayer of daemons… kisser of witches.”

Though Geralt is usually a man of few words, this NPC’s overly flowery language is a hilarious take on the typical traits of a fantasy hero. Additionally, this Gerritt is prideful and pompous, poking fun at the player for their lack of monster knowledge. In short, Gerritt is everything Geralt is not – like some alternate universe Shakespearean witcher.

Ironically, Gerritt often transports away to leave the player to contend with attacking enemies. Originally, Geralt has made his disdain for portals all too clear across both the video game franchise and Netflix series. Gerritt’s frequent portalling makes for a funny spoof off of Geralt’s well-known hatred.

Additionally, Gerritt drops references to other Witcher characters throughout the mission. He declares “Bards sing of my legendary deeds,” a clear nod to the bard Dandelion (Jaskier). He follows with proclamations of his major achievements, stating proudly, “I once bedded a woman while mounted atop a unicorn.” Fans of The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt will recognize this nod to Geralt’s sorceress, Yennefer.

Unfortunately, Gerritt comes to a rather unceremonious end. Just before the mission’s final battle, Gerritt gets instantly smashed by the mission’s boss Salissa, leaving the player to deal with her on their own. It seems this “Witcher” is all bark, no bite.

Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands is available on the Epic Games Store, PS4, and Xbox One.
