Titanfall has gone through several changes during its development, and during a panel at PAX held yesterday Lead Designer Justin Hendry and Lead Artist Joel Emslie revealed a couple of elements that were implemented into the game at some point, but didn’t make the cut.
The first was the ability to jump for titans. They were able to jump on buildings and around the battlefield. The problem with that was that pilots on foot didn’t really have any safe areas from being hunted down by titans, and it didn’t make much sense for a titan to jump on a building without causing it to collapse, so the feature was cut.
Pilots also used to have access to anti-titan sniper rifles. They could just perch somewhere and scope titans down, killing them in about three shots. The weapon was judged “really annoying,” and didn’t have any real drawback, so it was removed from the arsenal.
If you’re wondering if any hint was made about a Titanfall sequel, wonder no more. All the questions that even remotely hinted to it were deftly dodged.
