To the Moon made waves when it was first released on PC all the way back in 2011 with its engaging story. It was one of the first dominant RPG Maker games of the 2010's and proceeded to make its way to Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android due to how easily it could be ported over. That being said, To the Moon has not made its way to consoles yet, though that will be changing later today. Following a leak, Freebird Games and X.D. Network confirmed today that they are recreating the game for Nintendo Switch.

While RPG Maker MV is going to eventually release on consoles, the porting the game from the dated RPG Maker engine would not be practical. As a result, X.D. Network will be rebuilding To the Moon in its entirety for Nintendo Switch in Unity. That being said, you don't have to worry about much being changed from the original experience as X.D. Network confirmed that they are "precisely recreating" the entire To the Moon experience.

By watching the reveal trailer below, which seems to have been created in engine, you can tell that they got the Switch version's looks very close, if not a bit better, than the original release. As for why they are painstakingly recreating the game years after release for just a port, X.D. Network Director Kan Gao says "even under such a freemium-lead market, it's never too late to bring this heart-gripping story to a whole new group of players."

Personally, I loved To the Moon when I first played it a few years ago and I'm happy to see it getting such a thorough re-release for a new platform so many years later. It's also getting an animated movie, which is exciting. At this time, X.D. Network and Freebird Games have not said anything about releasing this Unity-based version of To the Moon for any other consoles or for PC, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android like the original release of the game. No plans for a console version of the game's sequel Finding Paradise have been mentioned either.

You can check out the first trailer and some of the first screenshots for this new version of To the Moon for Nintendo's hybrid console below. The developers are promising to release To the Moon for Nintendo Switch sometime this Summer.
