Today Headup Games gave us a heads up that their Limbo-esque game, Toby: The Secret Mine, will be releasing on PS4 quite soon. The atmospheric puzzle platformer is set to launch on Sony's premier system on July 6th for $14.99 USD. The game has been available on PC via Steam since October 2015 plus the Xbox One and Wii U since January 2017. So this release completes the trifecta of the console ports.

The story center around the titular Toby as he seeks out the kidnapped residents of his once peaceful village. From the edge of a grand forest to a snow pelted mountain to the unavoidable mine shaft, the young boy's adventure will take him many places. He'll need to use his wits and reflexes to pass the obstacles in his path and hopefully find his way out of the shadows that seem to be surrounding him.

The gameplay is a nice balance of a variety of puzzles (physics, jumping, sequence) and platforming sections. The game is about avoiding not attacking so outrunning and out-maneuvering foes will be key. The environment also holds many clues on how to survive to keep an eye out on the darkened background and foreground to know what to do next.

Headup Games also mentioned the following features in their press release:

  • Beautifully handcrafted environments and great visual effects bring an ethereal world to life
  • Puzzles of all shapes and sizes await
  • Beware traps and enemies, both of which can quickly end Toby’s adventure

While the game does take a lot of inspiration from Limbo (and, from the company's own account, Badland) the puzzle sections give it that bit of personality to separate it from the others. The physics based progression at times and the decision to include very different geographical locations also makes Toby: The Secret Mine stand out.
