Tokyo Revengers ad & new collab with the Japanese government explained

The press release for the collab, shared by Dengeki Online, explained that 20 years old has been the age of majority in Japan since the meiji restoration in 1879.

By lowering the age to 18, the government wishes to encourage young Japanese people to get involved with society and politics. However, the legal age required to drink, smoke, and participate in any type of gambling will still be 20 years old.

Furthermore, right now in Japan men can get married at 18, while women can get married starting at 16 years old with their parent’s consent if they’re under 18. Now the age will be pushed up to 18 for women as well.

The Tokyo Revengers ad features the main characters of the series and reads “reach majority and make your future, don’t be afraid”. There are several other ads being shown on the Japanese sides of YouTube, AbemaTV, Twitter, and Instagram. Here’s a compilation of all the ads:

Is Tokyo Revengers Season 2 confirmed?

Seeing how popular the Tokyo Revengers manga is now, especially thanks to its anime adaptation, a second season was quickly announced: Tokyo Revengers: Christmas Showdown. However, Season 2 has no official release date yet.

The first season of Tokyo Revengers lasted for 13 episodes / one cour in 2021. Recently, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, who voiced Doraken, was replaced for any future voiced projects of the series. Tatsuhisa Suzuki, besides Makoto in Free, recently lost nearly all of his anime and game roles after reports that he cheated on his wife, popular singer LiSA. His band Oldcodex is disbanding as well.
