Tomb Raider Film Adaptation Starring Alicia Vikander Gets Brand New Images and Details
The upcoming 2018 reboot of Tomb Raider will bring Lara Croft back to the big screen, with Ex Machina's Alicia Vikander to star.
Legendary adventurer Lara Croft has been most recently seen through the critically-acclaimed games Tomb Raider and Rise of the Tomb Raider in the past few years, while the famed explorer is getting another chance at the big screen in the upcoming 2018 film adaptation of the series.
In a report from GQ, new images were released from the set of the upcoming 2018 reboot of the Tomb Raider film franchise, which will star Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) and will be directed by Roar Uthaug (The Wave).
The upcoming reboot will largely take inspiration from 2013’s Tomb Raider, with director Uthag acknowledging that this time around the upcoming film will be “a completely different theatrical approach to Lara Croft” than her previous films starring Angelina Jolie, which will “offer something new in the origin and development of the character.”
Uthag also added in an interview with GQ that the film will “introduce Lara as a young woman who hasn’t yet found her way and her place in the world,” while also establishing her as “a young woman with great spirit and potential” as we “follow her struggles and her journey toward becoming the person she was meant to be and earning the role of Tomb Raider. So far, it seems the film is set to capture a lot of the reinvention we saw in 2013’s video game revival, and hopefully that will translate just as well to the big screen.
The upcoming Tomb Raider film will release on March 16th, 2018 – you can check out images of Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft above and below:
