Darrell Gallagher, the studio head of Crystals Dynamics, has announced via Tomb Raider‘s Facebook page that the game has entered its final stages of completion, and has subsequently gone gold. Gallagher described the development of the game as having, “spanned two studios, a pair of E3 stage demos, 50-plus magazine covers, 150 award nominations, nearly 800 fan art submissions, almost 2,000 blog posts, and over 50,000 replies from [the fans] on our forums.”

As for the core story and characterization of Lara Croft, Gallagher stated that Crystal Dynamics, “promised to break new ground for the franchise – to create an origins story that forges Lara Croft into a hero, and takes her on a journey like no other. I’m very happy that I can stand by those words today.” With 28 days left until the game launches, all that is left is for the game to be manufactured and shipped out to stores.

Tomb Raider has been developed by Crystal Dynamics and will be published by Square Enix for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC on March 5th, 2013.
