Tribeca Film Festival Unveils Gaming Titles Joining the Official Selections Lineup
Tribeca Film Festival welcomes eight titles into their First-ever gaming Lineup.
For the very first time, the Tribeca Film Festival will be focusing on the video game world by bridging the gap between film and games.
Following last year’s call for submission in which Tribeca officially opened up the gaming category for the inaugural Tribeca Games Award, it has now been revealed which games have been selected in the lineup.
The eight gaming titles that will be joining the Tribeca Festival as Official Selections, a first-of-its-kind recognition for video games in a film festival format, are:
- Harold Halibut
- Kena: Bridge of Spirits
- Lost in Random
- The Big Con
- TWELVE MINUTES
As exciting as that list is, Tribeca has a few more special additions to add to its event program.
For the festival’s 20th anniversary this year, the event will take place in New York for an electrifying in-person event that includes an advisory board consisting of filmmaker Nia DaCosta, writer and director Jon Favreau, Electronic Arts co-founder Bing Gordon, the Game Awards producer Geoff Keighley, Death Stranding creator Hideo Kojima, creative director of Remedy Entertainment, Sam Lake and Kiki Wolfkill, head of 343 Industries.
In a special outdoor live concert at NYC’s The Battery., The Songs of Red Dead Redemption 2 will be played by the original soundtrack producer for the game, Daniel Lanois. Along with his band, top tier special guests will also get involved with their own renditions of the music to the highly successful title.
The in-person event at the Festival takes place 10 years after Rockstar Games was selected to be part of Tribeca, and is a love letter to New York after the trials and tribulations of the past year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tribeca Festival announced the virtual hub, Tribeca At Home, which will offer exclusive online premieres to viewers who cannot attend the outdoor festival. This will include exclusive hands-on demos via Parsec with select titles from this year’s Official Selections.
Fans will also get to experience exclusive gameplay footage online at The Tribeca Games Spotlight that will comprise of this year’s Official Selections.
Tribeca Enterprises and Tribeca Festival Co-Founder and CEO Jane Rosenthal said “For over a decade, our mission has been to be a catalyst for placing games and their creators at the forefront of mainstream and artistic culture alongside film, TV and VR/AR,”
“We continue to embrace the cross-pollination and intersection of these storytellers with this year’s Tribeca Games Official Selections. And this is just the beginning.”
