Twelve Minutes Behind The Scenes Video Shows Daisy Ridley, James McAvoy, and Willem Dafoe Recording Lines

Here's some behind the scenes footage of the cast recording dialogue for the upcoming thriller.

Twelve Minutes was revealed last year during Microsoft’s E3 showcase and featured an interesting trailer showing a top-down view of a man struggling to cope with being stuck in a time-loop. Flash forward to this year, and the trailer surprise announced a star-studded cast featuring Willem Dafoe, Daisy Ridley, and James McAvoy. In a new video, the cast is shown recording some of their in-game lines.

Revealed through a tweet from Annapurna Interactive, the exclusive look of the footage comes from Entertainment Weekly, The video shows that recordings have been taking place in strange circumstances thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. Daisy Ridley and James McAvoy both recorded their final lines in a recording studio in London back in August. Meanwhile, developer Luis Antonio directed them from San Francisco through a ZOOM call. Willem Dafoe was in Rome for the recording sessions

Ridley mentions that “There’s just a lot of story,” and that “It goes from being this very joyous, immediate thing to this pretty dark warren of various options. It’s cool because you as the player are learning more, so you’re trying to figure out more.”

James McAvoy explains Twelve Minutes as,  “It feels like you’re reading what’s happening at times, even though you’re not. You are truly active, and you have way more choice than even in most games where it’s a linear path. Yes, you have choices and you make everything happen, but really your choices are so limited and you’re on an avenue and you can’t really branch off. In this one, you have a very small field of play, but the options within that field of play are almost infinite.”

“It was definitely a different thing for James because he’s the only one with knowledge,” Ridley explains, “Me and Willem are playing pretty spontaneously, in a reactive way. James had to really mix up what he was doing because it could’ve been loop 1, loop 5, loop 15. That adds a layer of complexity. So the first [session], we were really feeling our way through it. But once we got our heads around it, it flowed a lot easier.”

There’s also behind-the-scenes footage of the animations and concepts being shown throughout the video. Antonio does explain that the game isn’t part of The Shining universe after fans noticed the same carpet being present. Antonio explains that this is just an easter egg and may be removed once the game is eventually launched.

At current, Twelve Minutes is slated to launch on PC and Xbox and apparently is targeting toward the end of 2020. Whether or not this will be a launch on Xbox One or Xbox Series X is another thing. As for other platforms, Antionio has explained that they hope to bring the game to other platforms such as Nintendo Switch but wants to see the reaction to the game first.
