Today, Ubisoft announced that it has partnered with Lighstorm Entertainment and Fox Interactive to a create a new game based in the Avatar universe. The game's development will be handled by Massive Entertainment, the team that brought you The Division.

At the moment, further details on said project, including a title, are scarce. What we do know is the game will be for PC and "consoles." Further, we know the game is being built using Massive's Snowdrop engine, which is used in The Division and the upcoming South Park: The Fractured But Whole. According to Ubisoft, the engine will bring Pandora's unique terrain and inhabitants to life. Additionally, it was after seeing a Snowdrop-run game prototype, that Avatar creator James Cameron agreed to a partnership.

Cameron had the following to say about the project:

“What impressed me about Massive were the group’s passion for this project, and the power of its Snowdrop engine. With the power of [Snowdrop], and the team’s passion and obsessive focus on detail, we know they’re the right group to bring the beauty and danger of Pandora to life.”

With four sequels to Avatar in development, Massive and Lightstorm are said to be working side-by-side to expand on the movie universe in new ways. Further details on the project will come at a future date.
