Ubisoft has unveiled early concept images for the upcoming Splinter Cell Remake for the series' 20th anniversary. Along with the concept images, a new video has been shared on Ubisoft's official YouTube channel featuring special guests such as Larry Hryb and developers that are currently working on the long-awaited remake, which was announced back in October 2021.

The early concept art from the highly-anticipated remake, released on the official Ubisoft blog, depicts Sam Fisher in different landscapes. Those who have familiarized themselves with the series will be quick to detect Mr.Fisher in the images as he hides in the shadows while holding his silenced pistol, waiting for the right moment to start his stealth assault. But he seems to be missing in one of the images featuring a downpour with a massive building in the background.

The art and the video shared for the 20th anniversary serve as a reaffirmation after the departure of the game director David Grivel. While the Splinter Cell Remake concept art seems quite exciting, the 20-minute-long video featuring the developers shed more light upon the upcoming remake. The new celebration video gathers Creative Director Chris Auty, Technical Director Christian Carriere, Senior Game Designer Andy Schmoll, and Associate Level Design Director Zavian Porter at Ubisoft Toronto's performance capture studio. The developers discuss the previous Splinter Cell titles and their revolutionary aspects like the realistic stealth experience and immersive atmosphere, reinforced with interesting gameplay formulas.

The developers then elaborate on the personality of Sam Fisher and how his mannerisms and unique personality resonated with players over the past 20 years.

"In the original trilogy, Sam has a unique personality. He is witty, he is sarcastic, but he is still an elite operator. And then in the later games, he goes through personal loss. And that whole storyline is very carefully interwoven... So it is an evolving story with Sam Fisher," says Carriere, the game's technical director. The video touches on how the technical aspects of the original Splinter Cell made it a revolutionary stealth game during the period that it made its launch. "This is a game that, for many, redefined the third-person stealth action genre," says special guest Larry Hyrb, also known as Xbox's Major Nelson. The team also discusses what they are capable of when it comes to crafting an immersive stealth experience in Splinter Cell Remake. Carriere says, "We have the capability to really dive deep on that animation side now, in the tech side."

It is safe to say that the developers aim to utilize the current technical possibilities to build Splinter Cell from scratch while ensuring that it does not stray away from the original game's ethos. That being said, the story of Splinter Cell will be rewritten to update certain aspects for modern audiences. While the video and the early concept art spell good things for the highly-anticipated remake, the lack of in-game images or video likely means the game is still some way off from releasing.
