While Ubisoft released new installments in several of its mainstay franchises last year, such as Far Cry 4 and Assassin's Creed Unity, earlier in 2014 the company released its charming and original new creation Child of Light, and in honor of the game's one-year anniversary since releasing in April 2014, has a special free goodie that's easily worth the download.

Ubisoft has released a free downloadable story book set in the world of Child of Light as a commemorative piece for the one-year anniversary of Child of Light's release, with the book featuring gorgeous artwork and telling the tale of Reginald the Great, alongside special cameos and appearances by numerous characters in the game.

Developed by Child of Light writer Jeffrey Yohalem, the book is a touching reminder of the game's lush visuals and story filled with childlike wonder, with the team releasing the book as a thank you to the game's numerous fans it has collected since its year in release.

Ubisoft creative director Patrick Plourde also had several thoughts on the book and Child of Light as a whole in a statement on the storybook's creation, while also adding more on the motivation behind making it:

“From the start, we wanted to explore Lemuria from different perspectives and protagonists. The illustrated books are set a couple of years after the events of the game and follow the adventures of Reginald, the son of Robert and Margaret."

“Since the game was released, we received hundreds of illustrations and cosplay pictures from our amazing community. We also received very touching letters on how the game helped some of our fans in their life. For all this, we want to say thank you. This illustrated book is our gift to you.”

Additional storybooks like the one for Reginald the Great are also being planned in the future to take place in the world of Child of Light, with more details and opportunities for fans to contribute through Facebook and Twitter to be revealed.

Child of Light is currently available for PS4, Xbox One, PS3, Xbox 360, PS Vita, Wii U, and PC - you can download the special storybook, Child of Light: Reginald the Great, by clicking here and grabbing the book for free in honor of the game's one-year anniversary.
