Today is the second iteration of Ubisoft's UbiForward Events. These serve as a way for players to get a look at some of the upcoming games from the publisher. However, Ubisoft has had several "internal issues" lately. Between sexual harassment allegations and an extremely misguided promotional video for Tom Clancy's Elite Squad, the company has consistently been in the news for terrible reasons over the last few months. So, before the next event,

" target="_blank" rel="noopener noreferrer">CEO Yves Guillemot took to the camera and addressed the "issues". Give it a watch below.

It's great to see Ubisoft and Guillemot address the concerns and deliver an actual plan for some action. Guillemot commits to putting together a million-dollar fund for its graduate program. This will focus on providing opportunities for underrepresented groups including women and people of color. The company is also making a donation to the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, though Guillemot didn't detail the dollar amount.

Those are both meaningful changes. And, the hope is that, internally, the entire team is committed to better oversight of both its people and its products. However, it is a bit questionable for the video to come out before today's event and not during. In a follow-up tweet, the team says they couldn't do so to "time constraints", but I'm not sure if that flies.

Obviously, this event is going out around the world. That means it's going to be broadcast in several languages. Thus, Guillemot's apology will need to have translated captions added, at the very least. That said, this isn't some late-breaking story. We've known about these "issues" for weeks or months. Instead, it gives the impression that Ubisoft wanted to post this and then bury it for casual fans with all the other news that will come out today.

Personally, I really hope that's not the case. The company did say they're working to include Guillemot's video in VODs after the event, which is a good move. Hopefully, they start making more of those in the future.
