Ubisoft Predicts Another Console Generation Before the Industry Moves to Streaming

During Ubisoft’s conference call for investors and analysts related to the fiscal year 2015/2016, CEO Yves Guillemot talked about the possibility of a new console generation.

“On the console side, we expect there will be new consoles that are going to make this market continue to grow, and we feel that we’ll still have another generation of consoles before we have new types of consoles coming to the market.”

Later in the call, Guillemot explained further, mentioning that he has no official information on a mid-generation update (IE: PS4 Neo and Xbox One.5 or however they’ll be called), but he thinks that we will have have another console cycle before the market moves to a game streaming model:

On the new consoles, there’s nothing official on that front. My expectation is that we will have another cycle of consoles before we go to streaming. I don’t have dates or anything, but what I see is that the manufacturers will prefer to have again new hardware to take advantage of the new possibilities that they can bring.

Guillemot then concluded by mentioning that the latest generation transition was very smooth, so Ubisoft doesn’t see a new one as a problem, but as a way to boost the market further.
