At Ubisoft it is not uncommon for two or more studios to assist development on a major title. Assassins’ Creed IV: Black Flag had up to seven developers working on the title at one point. These included Montreal, the lead developer, alongside Singapore, Kiev, Quebec, Sofia, Annecy, and Bucharest.
Reflections, whom most recently worked on the naval battles in Assassin’s Creed III, and assisted with development on Watch_Dogs and The Crew will now be working on Tom Clancy’s The Division. The strategy for The Division entails a unified front, which means Reflections will be working on, “main characters, enemies, RPG pillars, building Manhattan, our Core technology, online components, and so on,” Managing Director Pauline Jacquey explained, “it gives us a very broad and wide input on the game, but it’s not as limited as doing the naval battles on Assassin’s Creed III.”
Tom Clancy’s The Division is being developed by Ubisoft Massive alongside Ubisoft Reflections and will be published by Ubisoft for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on an unannounced date this holiday season.
