After being revealed earlier at press events and shown in mostly behind-closed-doors demos and panels, Ubisoft has finally revealed the first trailer for its upcoming 2D side-scroller (with some RPG elements put in as well), Child of Light.

Inspired heavily by Japanese role-playing games and artistically modeled after an assortment European fairy tales and the films of Hayao Miyazaki (such as Princess Mononoke, Spirited Away, and Howl’s Moving Castle), Child of Light features the player as Aurora, a young girl stricken with illness that finds herself in the wondrous kingdom of Lemuria to defeat an evil queen.

Developed with the UbiArt Framework engine, used previously on Rayman Origins/Rayman Legends and the also recently-announced Valiant Hearts: The Great War, Child of Light is a 2D side-scrolling platform game that also includes elements of RPG turn-based combat, where Aurora will use various attacks and magic to defeat enemies she encounters across her way. For more on the game, or to look in wonder at the beautiful artwork, you can find the reveal trailer below.

Child of Light releases on Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, and PC in 2014.
