Ultrakill Comes to Early Access in 2020, Fuses Retro FPS and Action Genres
Mixing classic FPS and action game genres, Ultrakill will be available via early access later this year. A demo of the game is available right now.
If you’re into retro-style first-person shooters, then you’re in luck. Ultrakill is bringing its amalgamation of genres via early access in 2020. However, you can check out a demo of the game right now.
Shown during the Escapist Indie Showcase, a brief trailer for Ultrakill was shown giving us a look at its gameplay. Developed by Hakita, this retro-inspired shooters meshes the gameplay of classic shooters of Doom and Quake with the style system of Devil May Cry. You can check out the gameplay for yourself above
In Ultrakill, the world as we know it is gone. Humans are extinct, and in its place are bloodhungry machines. By that, I mean these robots actually run on blood. However, that fuel is starting to run low. So, the machines decide to go to Hell to find some more.
As mentioned above, there is a demo available for Ultrakill right now on PC. All you have to do is go to the game’s itch.io page and click the “Download Now” option. You can name your own price for the demo, but you can play it for free. Titled “Ultrakill Prelude,” the demo will include a tutorial, 5 levels, a secret mission, 4 enemy types, 3 bosses, 2 weapons with 2 variations each, and 2 difficulty options.
Personally, I like the idea of adding a style system from Devil May Cry into a retro-style shooter like Doom or Quake. I’m also just a sucker for these kinds of shooters, so I’m pretty excited to check Ultrakill out. In fact, I actually just downloaded the demo.
If you are into retro shooters, Ultrakill isn’t the only one to be showcased this week. During the first day of IGN’s Summer of Gaming event, Metal: Hellsinger was shown. It mixes fast-paced shooting with rhythm-based gameplay. It also features the vocalists of Trivium and Arch Enemy. You can check out more details here.
