2009, was a great year to be a gamer. Multiplatform games such as Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and Assassin's Creed 2 held things down for the 3rd party publishers. Microsoft, was able to deliver yet another Halo title. Nintendo, made us all feel young  again with Super Mario Bros Wii. However out of all the great titles released this year none (1st party or 3rd party, multiplatform or exclusive) has come close to Uncharted 2 (Metacritic score of 96, for whatever it's worth). It may sound like opinion, but play the game and compare next to any title released this year and you'll quickly realize the same thing.

Now I'm not 100% sure how the voting process works for the Spike VGA, but by giving the award to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Uncharted 2 for game of the year they definitely got it all right. This doesn't mean that Modern Warfare 2 or Assassin's Creed 2 are  bad games in any way, but it does help show that whoever is in charge of this 2-hour train-wreck known as the Spike TV Video Games Awards has somewhat of an idea what the hell they're talking about!
