Report: Uncharted Movie Gets New Director in Dan Trachtenberg, Aiming to Start Production by End of 2019

Tom Holland's Uncharted feature film produced by Sony Pictures has found its replacement director for Shawn Levy - 10 Cloverfield Lane's Dan Trachtenberg.

January 14, 2019

The Uncharted feature film starring Tom Holland has found its new director, according to a new report. Since the stepping down of director Shawn Levy in December 2018, Sony Pictures has been on the hunt for a replacement. Today, Variety reported that 10 Cloverfield Lane director Dan Trachtenberg would be taking the lead for the project.

Trachtenberg is known for his work on horror film 10 Cloverfield Lane and has done directing work on Netflix’s Black Mirror, Amazon’s The Boys, and much more. According to the report, “Sony has been hoping to work with Trachtenberg since [the horror film] opened in 2016.”

Fans had originally been backing Castle actor Nathan Fillion for the lead role, if not a job as director, citing his fan-made Uncharted movie that was uploaded to YouTube by director Allan Ungar.

The project has been stuck in pre-production hell for many years, with constant stories of cast rearrangements, production re-scheduling, crew changes, and much more. Set before the events of Naughty Dog’s Uncharted game series, the film focuses on the life of Nathan Drake (Tom Holland), a young treasure hunter seeking an adventurous thrill, and his first encounter with fan-favorite Victor Sullivan – nicknamed Sully.

Now, the report claims that Sony is hoping to begin production for Uncharted by the end of 2019, with the exact date unknown due to Holland’s commitments with the press tour for Spider-Man: Far From Home.

We’re excited to see what Trachtenberg does with the script that is already complete and the cast that is slowly building its way up… very slowly. Let’s hope he actually stays with the project and doesn’t follow suit in the “curse” of making an Uncharted feature film.
